Suncor Voyageur Early Works Project
Suncor Energy Inc.’s Voyageur Project is a combination of 10 different project area plans that will complete the strategy to double the size of Suncor’s Fort McMurray oil sands operations to a peak production of between 500,000 and 550,000 barrels per day between 2011 and 2012. This includes the construction of Suncor’s third oil sands upgrader.
North American Construction Group (NACG) was contracted to supply and install all of the underground piping systems including oily water sewer, sanitary sewer, cooling water, firewater, potable water and closed hydrocarbon drains. Earthworks for the project also included various site development works such as pads, ditches and ponds. NACG was also responsible for the installation of dewatering measures necessary to render the excavations and trenches safe or work as per OSSA’s recommendations for geotechnical stability. Piling work included the installation of carbon steel pipe piles used to support foundations of the pipe rack systems, vessels and other structures across the site.
