Suncor Energy Inc.’s MNU Project involves the construction of a Hydrotreater Plant (Plant 64), a Hydrogen Plant (Plant 66) and a series of pipe racks that tie the new plants to the existing ones. North American Construction Group’s (NACG) scope includes the supply and installation of underground piping systems normally referred to as the oily water sewer, firewater, potable water and closed hydrocarbon drains. NACG was also contracted to install 1100 piles to support the foundations of the pipe rack systems, vessels and other structures across the site. Earthworks for the project included the construction of various site development works including an existing hill cutback, demolition of existing old utilities and electrical systems, excavation and rough grading, backfill around foundations, road construction in addition to the installation of crane pads and ditches. NACG also provided the construction of about 7,800 cubic yards of structural concrete foundations in addition to about 2,250 cubic yards of concrete pavement.
