CNRL Horizon Plant Site Development
Canadian Natural Resources Limited’s Horizon Project is located 70 kilometres north of Fort McMurray in the Albert oil sands. Phase 1 start-up is scheduled for the third quarter of 2008, which will see production of 110,000 barrels of synthetic crude oil (SCO) per day. Future phases will see production of 232,000 barrels of SCO per day, followed in due course by an expansion to 500,000 barrels of SCO per day.
North American Construction Group (NACG) provided site preparation services and deep undergrounds installation for Areas 1, 2 and 3 at the Horizon Project. NACG installed approximately 55 kilometres of underground utilities ranging from 2 to 52 inches in diameter for natural gas, utility water, recycled water, drinking water, sanitary sewer, firewater and storm sewer services. 12 million bank cubic metres (BCM) of earthworks materials were also moved to bring the site to grade including the construction of ponds, roads, ditches, culverts, area graveling and erosion protection.
